Practical Survival Tips For When Water Is Scarce

When growers are faced with water restrictions as a result of long-term drought conditions, they have two principal questions to address:

How to maximize the amount of irrigation that actually gets used by plants

This involves techniques to increase capture of irrigation water and reduce loss through runoff, evaporation, and transpiration.

How much water should be applied at each irrigation event

This section presents recent and ongoing research determing water needs of trees and shrubs. Although the data is limited, it provides guidance for more precision irrigation of woody ornamental crops.
