Commerical Foliage Plant Pathology

There are many types of disease which can cause economic losses to ornamental foliage crops. The four major pathogen groups commonly affecting foliage crops are bacteria, fungi, nematodes, and viruses. The research mission of the plant pathology department at MREC is to identify problems an conduct research appropriate to understanding and managing the impact of plant pathogens on the production and maintenance of ornamental plants.

Research on integrated management strategies involving biological, cultural, and chemical intervention in both commercial production and landscape environments are undertaken. Research knowledge on new diseases, controls, and management strategies are disseminated directly to the industry through publications, presentations, or through extension specialists.
