International Experiences

•  2006-07. Six months in New Zealand with the New Zealand Sports Turf Institute conducted and completed an economic and labor skills study; six months in Australia with the University of Melbourne conducting a national study on the turfgrass industry.

•  1994-95. Eighteen months as Field Coordinator in Rio Branco, Acre , Brazil working with an NGO on agroforestry systems in the Amazon basin.

•  1990-91. Three months in Bolivia ( La Paz , Cochabamba and Chapare) conducting economic research on cut flowers and alternative agricultural systems for USAID.

•  1981-1984. The Gambia , West Africa . Economist on USAID funded crop and livestock project.

•  1973-1976. Peace Corps Volunteer ( Sierra Leone , West Africa ), an Agricultural Extension Agent working on an inland valley swamp rice development scheme with village farmers.

Research

•  Economic research with environmental horticultural products & services (e.g, foliage, flowering plants, nursery crops, sod production, golf courses, landscape services, sports/athletic fields).

•  Fields of specialization include market analysis, business and financial management, human resource management, cost-benefit analysis and economic impact analysis.

•  289 publications, including 2 books, 4 book chapters, 46 refereed journal articles and proceedings, 63 research reports, 69 trade journal articles, 111 University Extension publications.
