Class of 2011 (Entering Fall 2007) Student Announcements

We would like to welcome you to the University of Florida College of Pharmacy Orlando Campus. Congratulations on your conditional admission!  If you have already received an official admissions letter  via the US postal service from the Student Affairs Office then the following information applies to you. We will be emailing you throughout the summer to keep you up to date with our campus.

First of all, please be aware that we will mostly be communicating with you via email therefore please keep an eye out for our emails. Some email accounts, for example Hotmail and MSN, send emails from unknown addresses straight into your Junk Mail. Please note you might want to keep in an eye on your junk mail folder from now on so you don’t miss out on important information. In the very near future we will be emailing you via your Gatorlink address. Now here are some announcements…

Gatorlink Email Address:  As soon as you are able to register for a Gatorlink email address please do so. Gatorlink is the official email address you will be using with the University of Florida. Once you are officially in the UF system as an admitted student you will be able to sign up for an account. You can learn more about Gatorlink and how to create an account at www.gatorlink.ufl.edu. Once you have a Gatorlink email address please contact Ms. Tracy Stuck (stuck@cop.ufl.edu) to report your Gatorlink address. Gatorlink email is the only way we can ensure you are receiving messages from us since many other providers block mass mailings.

Q & A Sessions: We realize a lot of you have questions about what it is like to be a student at the Orlando Campus. For this reason we will be holding 2 Q&A Sessions this summer during which you can meet with current students and ask them questions concerning our campus. More information can be found HERE.

Textbooks: A master textbook list will be posted online in the summer (www.cop.ufl.edu/studaff). Please check that site for the most updated list. You will also be able to view a tentative list on the UF Health Science Center Bookstore website (again later in the summer). The UF Health Science bookstore offers book deferment (the option to use your expected financial aid award as a form of payment) to purchase textbooks. You will receive information on this subject at a later date. The HSC Bookstore’s website can be accessed HERE.

Housing Information: Please note there is no on-campus housing. Students are responsible for securing their own housing. We have posted links to online apartment guides to help those of you relocating to the Central Florida Area. We do not sponsor or advertise for any particular company. We are also letting students post messages for those of you looking for roommates/housing. All this can be found HERE.

Admissions: Please make sure you have read your conditional admission letters carefully. This letter will indicate what the condition of your admission is. It is important that you meet the condition stated on the letter so that you may start the program in the Fall. If you have any questions concerning the conditions of your admissions, please contact the Student Affairs office directly at (352) 273-6217 or toll free at (866)231-8828.

Schedules: Lecture schedules are now posted on the Student Affairs site (www.cop.ufl.edu/studaff then click on “Class Schedules” then “Gainesville 1PD Class Schedule”). The lecture schedule is when the class is held in Gainesville-it them becomes available to you online about 2-3 hours later. The Campus Meeting Times (the times you are required to come to the Orlando Campus) will be posted online later this summer. We will email you to notify you when this is up. In the past, these have been made available in late July-early Aug.

UF Student Health Insurance through Scarborough Insurance: Health insurance is required while you are enrolled in the College of Pharmacy. Cost for this insurance is assumed by the student. All UF students enrolled in a degree seeking program are eligible to enroll in the Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan. Please contact Scarborough Company Insurance, Inc. at (352)377-2002 or e-mail them at scarins@scarins.com for more information. You can also download forms from their website www.scarins.com .
*Be sure to look at Plan B, since Plan A only covers services at the Health Care Center in Gainesville. (Students at the distant campuses are not charged the health care fee that allows access to the Student Health Care Center in Gainesville). With Plan B you are able to see physicians outside the Gainesville area and without having to visit the Health Care Center on the main campus for a referral. For those who already have coverage with Scarborough be sure to contact them to ensure you have no lapse in coverage. Again for questions about this insurance please contact Scarborough directly. Please note you do not have to use this company for health insurance. You may utilize any company that best fits your needs.

Orientation: Please note you will receive detailed information about Orientation at a later date. For now here is a heads up of what is coming up….Orientation is required for all incoming students. Orientation for the Orlando Campus students is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, August 16th, 2007 at the Orlando Campus. The all-campus orientation is tentatively scheduled in Gainesville on Tuesday, August, 21st 2007. All students are required to attend their “home campus” orientation as well as the “All-Campus” Orientation. The most up-to-date Orientation information will be posted on the Student Affairs website so be sure to check there throughout the summer.
